Rosalia Stusynski, 96, of Florian, MN, died on Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, in North Star Manor, Warren, MN.

Rosalia was born at home in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN, on November 25, 1927, to Michael and Bridget (Zakrzewski) Kuznia. The seventh of nine children, she was raised in Florian and attended Florian District 44 Country School through the 8th grade. She began high school in Stephen but had to quit and help at home when her father got sick. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her sweetheart, Bernard “Barney” Stusynski, on June 14, 1949 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alma Township. She never forgot riding back home to Florian from the wedding in a jeep.

She was a farmer’s wife all her married life, working alongside her husband, milking cows, providing meals in the fields, and doing whatever else needed to be done. She lived on the homeplace when they moved in with Barney’s mother to care for her and, after his death on April 15, 1994, she continued to be independent. Her son, Leonard, moved into her home to help her with her house and yard. Rosalia moved into North Star Manor in January of 2022.

A loving and dedicated mother, Rosalia lived a simple but fulfilling life. She was the family caregiver and her life was firmly grounded in her Catholic faith, with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life’s journey. She said the rosary daily and could often be found at the nursing home, sitting quietly, rosary in hand. In addition to being a member of Assumption Catholic Church all her life, she was active in the Ladies Sodality, the Polish Choir, co-editor of the Assumption Centennial book, and helped with the Kuznia Reunion book. She worked for Arctic Cat in the garment division as a seamstress. Rosalia enjoyed gardening and canning, tending her flowers, quilting, crocheting, and playing cards. In her later years she enjoyed watching men’s and women’s professional basketball, softball, volleyball, and the Minnnesota Twins.

She is survived by five children, Theresa Sylskar, William (Jody) Stusynski, Leonard Stusynski, Peter (Bonita) Stusynski, and Bernadette (Earl) Pawlowski; brother, Michael (Lillian) Kuznia Jr.; sister-in-law, Joan Omdahl; grandchildren, Ken “JR” (Amy) Sylskar, Michael (Kristi) Sylskar, Drew (Mallory) Stusynski, Dayna (Tyler) Anderson, Joette (Chris) Hennen, Taira (Brian) Anderson, Jade Anderson, Ashlea (Pat) Brons, Kayla Pawlowski, Tami (Matt) McFarland; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Bernard, Rosalia was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson, Zack Stusynski; son-in-law, Kenneth Sylskar Sr; and siblings, Albert, Stephen, Philomae, Melany, Ira, Emil, Veronica; and several nieces and nephews.
