Obituary/Jean Gladys Davis, 88

Jean Gladys Klegstad was born on December 14, 1937, to Emil and Alma Christine (Lagerquist) Klegstad on the family farm in rural Karlstad, MN. She was baptized in 1945 on her grandfather's farm northeast of Karlstad and later confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN.

Beginning at the age of 15 and continuing through high school, Jean worked in the potato fields picking and sorting potatoes, developing the strong work ethic that remained with her throughout her life. After graduating from high school, she moved to the Twin Cities. When her father became ill, she returned home that September to help care for her younger siblings, putting family before herself.

On December 27, 1956, Jean married George "Arnie" Lindstrom. They made their home in the Twin Cities, where they began raising their family and where Jean worked at National Photo Studios. In 1969, they returned to northern Minnesota and owned and operated Hartz Grocery Store in Strandquist until 1972, a job Jean often said was her favorite. They later purchased a farm west of Strandquist, where they continued raising their family. Following Arnie's passing in 1977, Jean remained a source of strength and stability for her children, continuing to nurture and guide her family with love and determination.

In 1980, Jean met Lloyd Davis, and together they made their home in Wirt and later Cohasset, MN. The two shared many happy years together before marrying on November 23, 2002. They then made their home in Bovey, MN. Following Lloyd's passing in 2007, Jean eventually returned to Karlstad in 2014 before moving to Moorhead in 2016 to be closer to her daughters, where she resided with Denise, her daughter, best friend, and amazing care giver.  

Above all, Jean cherished her family. She found great joy in being a homemaker and took immense pride in creating a warm, welcoming home for those she loved. Her kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings, where she lovingly prepared homemade meals and baked treats that brought everyone together. She was an exceptional cook whose recipes became family favorites. One of her greatest joys was making homemade soup, a weekly tradition she looked forward to and loved talking about with family and friends. Even today, her family continues to discover handwritten recipes tucked into cookbooks, recipe boxes, drawers, and notebooks, a treasured reminder of the love she poured into every meal she prepared.

Jean also enjoyed cross-stitching, gel pen coloring, and many spirited games of Dominos with family and friends. Her greatest joy, however, was simply spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her with kindness, humility, and a servant's heart.

Throughout her life, Jean faithfully served her church and community. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was an active member of the Church Auxiliary, serving as its president, belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Strandquist for 55 years, and while living in Grand Rapids, was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Jean will be remembered for her quiet strength, steadfast faith, generous heart, and unconditional love for her family. Her legacy lives on not only through the generations she leaves behind, but also through the traditions, recipes, and memories she lovingly created.

Jean is survived by her five children: Barb Lindstrom of Moorhead, MN; Denise Lindstrom of Moorhead; Grace Pagnac of Moorhead; Greg (Lori) Lindstrom of Roseau, MN; and Gary (Shelly) Lindstrom of Bovey, MN; her grandchildren: Nick (Ann) Tunheim, Lucas (Jessica) Trickle, Deann Halladay, Joshua Pagnac, Bennett Pagnac, Lynette (Darrin) Foss, Lanelle (Brandon) Bremault, Tim Lindstrom, Ben Lindstrom, and Hannah (Dillon) Campbell; 17 great-grandchildren; special niece, Carol Dupre as well as several others nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George "Arnie" Lindstrom; her second husband, Lloyd Davis; her parents, Emil and Alma Klegstad; her siblings, Gordon Klegstad, Arnold Klegstad, Irene Nelson, Ione Syverson, and Joan Pearson.

Jean Davis passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Sanford West Hospital in Fargo, ND at the age of 88 years.  May her memory be blessed.  

A Celebration of Life for Jean Davis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, Minnesota, with Rev. Amber Arlien officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. that morning. Burial will follow at Mamrelund Cemetery, rural Strandquist, Minnesota.
