Roy Anderson, 91

Roy Anderson was born to Andrew and Ruth (Swanson) Anderson on September 21, 1929, on the farm in Lincoln Twp, Marshall Co, north of Strandquist, Minn. the fourth of nine kids. The farm had no electricity, no running water, but thanks to wonderful parents everything went well. Roy attended school in Strandquist and played all sports. He liked school and graduated as Salutatorian of his class. Roy married his high school sweetheart Emojean Koland on March 31, 1951. In October of 1951 he was drafted into the Army and after basic training he was sent to England where he was a mechanic. He was discharged in 1953 and then started working for Urbaniak Implement. In 1958 he purchased Karlstad Motor Company with his brother Elmer from Alvin Turnwall. Roy farmed all through these years and started helping on the farm at 7- or 8-years old picking rocks at a young age and still doing it into his 90’s. Roy served on the Karlstad City Council, on the Karlstad Elevator Board and was active in First Lutheran Church of Karlstad serving as a Deacon and other jobs. He also cleaned snow for the church since the 1960’s.
Darwyn and Rory took over the farm in the 1980’s and the four grand boys have joined the farming operation. Roy passed away unexpectedly in Thief River Falls on January 12, 2023 at the age of 93.
Roy is survived his wife, and their three wonderful kids Darwyn (Lori), Rory (Gaylene), Nola (Michael) Hilde of Karlstad, grandkids Nicholas Anderson (Renate), Ryan Anderson and his wife Ashlee, Krista Pietruszewski and her husband Jonny, Benjamin Hilde and wife Cie Gie, Garrett Anderson, Zachary Hilde and his wife Erika, Michala Hilde, Ross Anderson (Rachel), Great grand kids Carter Thompson, Coen Anderson, Presley Hilde, Haven Helling, Maizie Helling, Ulla Jean Pietruszewski, and Chance Allan Anderson as well as Roy’s sister Fern Brevik.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Edna Berg, Alice Vik, Alvin, Elmer, Adolph, Marion Johnson, and Francis.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Pastor Caitlin Jensen presiding.
Visitation will be held at 6:00PM, Wednesday, at the church with a Prayer Service at 7. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment services will be held at Karlstad Cemetery at a later date.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Karlstad American Legion and the Minnesota National Guard.
