Byron Lee Olsen, 80

Byron Lee Olsen was born on January 19, 1942, in Grand Forks, ND to Olger and Marie (Lee) Olsen. He attended school in Karlstad, graduating from high school in 1960. Following school, he went on to attend the Wahpeton School of Science from 1960 to 1961 for surveying. He enlisted in the Army in 1962, serving in Georgia training in the Military Police and then in Colorado until his discharge in 1965. Following his discharge Byron worked for several area farmers in the Karlstad community and also worked for the highway department. Byron was a lifelong resident of Karlstad until he entered the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock in 2016 where he passed away on December 7, 2022, at the age of 80.

Byron was a member of First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, the Karlstad American Legion Post 445, and a Lifelong member of the N.R.A.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, firearms and very much enjoyed reloading all of his own ammo.

Byron is survived by his sister Myrna Harper of Minneapolis, MN, numerous cousins, and his special good friend Rodney Thompson of Karlstad.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Byron’s family would like to give a special thank you to all of the nurses and staff of the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock for all of their special care.

Funeral services were held at 1:00PM, Monday, December 12, 2022 at Collins Funeral Home in Karlstad with Pastor Caitlin Jensen presiding. Military Honors were accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post #445 and the Minnesota National Guard.

Visitation was held one hour prior to services.

Interment services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Edinberg, ND in the Spring.

Arrangements are with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.
