Ione Syverson, 81

Ione Syverson, 81 of Karlstad, MN passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Karlstad Senior Living, Karlstad, MN with her loving family by her side.

The service to celebrate Ione’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN with Rev. Amber Arlien officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Ione Christene Klegstad was born October 15, 1941 at the Klegstad Hotel in Strandquist, MN the daughter of Emil and Alma (Lagerquist) Klegstad. She was baptized in 1945 on the Nels and Turi Klegstad Farm and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist. She attended Strandquist High School.

On January 2, 1958 she was united in marriage to Merlyn Nelson at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, MN. The couple made their home on the home farm in Lincoln Township, Karlstad, MN. To this union six children were born, Marlin, Pamela, Bradley, David, Dion and Christopher. The most wonderful days of Ione’s life were when she was on the farm raising her children.

Ione worked at the Karlstad Nursing Home for over 20 years. She then went to work at the Town & Country Cafe and later owned and operated the Sunny Day Café in Karlstad for many years.

Ione was united in marriage to Leroy Syverson and the couple enjoyed many years together.

Ione loved music and was self-taught playing the guitar that her dad bought her when she was very young. She also played the accordion, ukulele, piano and tried her hand with many other instruments. She enjoyed old country music, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, feeding the pigs, mowing, and keeping a beautiful yard. She really loved her dog, Toby.

Ione enjoyed attending Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist and she made sure her children were baptized and confirmed there.

Survivors include her loving children, Marlin (Doreen) Nelson of Karlstad, MN, Pamela (Leslie) Shawback of Karlstad, MN, Bradley (Ellen) Nelson of Drayton, ND, David (Jodi) Nelson of Moorhead, MN and Dion (Karla) Nelson of Karlstad, MN; grandchildren, Corey (Katie) Nelson, Tara (Brent) Syverson, Alan (Amanda) Nelson, Tiffany Grochowski, Jesse Grochowski, Carla Swenson, Lindsey (Andy) Krank, Briana (Tim) Trevis, McKenna Nelson, Kayla (Jordan) Olson, Jordon Patterson, Brandon (Breanne) Patterson, Anthony Patterson and Tiffany Patterson; great-grandchildren, Callie, Chastity, Isaiah, Khalil, Brielle, Bryleigh, Blake, Briggs, Ben, Bowen, Brayden, Aubrey, Kaeden, Chase, Hope, Shawn, Trypp, Waylon, Elsie, Eleanora, Hendrix, Whitley, Ruby; sister, Jean Lindstrom Davis of Moorhead, MN; half-brother, Ernie Klegstad of Hallock, MN; sisters-in-law, Lila, Dorothy and Ina Lou; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her son, Christopher; siblings, Gordon (Betty) Klegstad, Arnold (Nellie) Klegstad, Irene (Gayhard) Nelson, Joan (Sanford) Pearson and Stanley Klegstad.
